FOSTERING ALLOWANCE
Fostering allowances are up to £700 per child per week depending on children’s needs. Additionally, foster carers receive many other benefits while fostering. Foster carers are urgently needed from a diverse range of backgrounds and all ages. The fostering allowance can also be referred to as the foster carer payment.
One Child (additional needs)

If you foster one child, the tax free income is £23,000 and when fostering two children, the tax free income is £36,000. Fostering more children means more income will be tax free.
The fostering allowance is one of the important factors when becoming a foster carer. However, getting the right help and support is also very important.
The fostering allowance is up to £700 per child per week depending on children’s needs. Additionally, there are many other allowances and benefits for foster carers. Please note the above-mentioned allowances are an indication of weekly payments made for each placement type. All allowances vary as each placement is assessed on an individual basis. The foster carer payment is in place to ensure there is no financial implication to all foster carers in regard to the care of the child, so the key investment that foster carers need to make is that of time, love, and support.
The payment is split into the allowance element (to cover costs on behalf of the young person including food, clothing, utilities, transport, pocket money, activities, holidays and other costs) and reward element which is retained by the foster carer (for your hard work and efforts fostering).
